In Thailand, good food can be found in all kinds of places. Whether it’s in Michelin-starred restaurants or on the corner of the street, the variety and diversity of Thai cuisine reflect Bangkok’s dynamic landscape.

Food courts in Bangkok are ideal spaces for people to enjoy Thai food. The best of these ‘food havens’ become essential destinations for anyone seeking an authentic taste of Thai dishes and flavors. Food court proprietors often compete to attract the latest and best local food vendors, offering delicious meals every day at a reasonable cost.

In this project, we approached the design with a democratic and inclusive vision, aiming to create a space that caters to a range of tastes while fostering accessibility. We envisioned an ‘every person’s food place’ – a space that is desirable for discerning eaters and also affordable for a wide range of customers.

We see food spaces as public spaces that can accommodate people from every socioeconomic background, bringing them together.

The physical design prioritizes accessibility, featuring clear signage and wayfinding, wheelchair-friendly access, and spacious layouts that facilitate easy movement. The space is coordinated with neutral tones and simple materials, emphasizing communal and social interaction.

The design includes various types of seating to cater to different groups: individual tables, family-sized tables, and communal seating. This provides both privacy and opportunities for social interaction, with flexible seating arrangements that allow for group gatherings.

The spacious layout ensures ample space between food counters and seating areas, facilitating easy movement, especially during busy times.

At Architectkidd, we love designing spaces for food, from high to low. Restaurant design in Thailand is not just about the food; it’s also about creating an ambiance that reflects the cultural richness and creativity.
